The impressive 1927 Pedro Ximenez Solera, from a Solera begun nearly 80 years ago, boasts a dark amber color as well as an extraordinary nose of creme brulee, liquefied nuts, marmalade, and maple syrup.
The 2020 Rully Montagne La Folie has very good intensity on the nose, beeswax comingling with citrus peel and flinty aromas. The palate is well balanced with lovely, pure citrus fruit, touches of dried honey and wild peach, quite deep and well-defined on the finish. Excellent. Drink: 2023-2033.
A very good, competent St.-Emilion with notes of cedar, roasted herbs, lavender, black cherries and spice, there is something southern Rhone-like to this wine’s aromatics. However, on the palate, the wine is classic Bordeaux, with moderate tannin, medium weight, and good freshness and precision.
Very stylish and polished this year, sweet ripe fruit of strawberry and cranberry powerful yet in check. Some grip from the fine tannin and freshness lifts the finish. Very drinkable already! Latimer Vintners
This vineyard is adjacent to Meursault Vireuils. This is quite rich and forward with some toffee and spice. Ripe apple fruit and well balanced with good acidity – Great concentration of ripe fruit. Lovely.
The 2017 Le Marquis de Calon Ségur is a bit understated relative to some recent vintages, but it is nevertheless very pretty. Floral overtones and cool red berry fruit give the 2017 its distinctive, lifted personality.
One of the high points of the range, the 2020 Chablis Terroir de Courgis opens in the glass with aromas of citrus oil, orange blossom and pear, framed by a deft touch of youthful reduction. Medium to full-bodied, fleshy and concentrated, it`s deep and vibrant, with lively acids and a saline finish.
The 2020 Chablis Terroir de la Chapelle has turned out nicely, exhibiting aromas of pear, oyster shell, freshly baked bread and orange oil. Medium to full-bodied, layered and concentrated, it`s a taut, saline wine that concludes with a mineral finish.
The 2020 Chablis Terroir de Chichée is another high point in the range, exhibiting notes of pear, orange oil, fresh bread, white flowers and beeswax. Medium to full-bodied, satiny and precise, it`s lively and saline, with a penetrating finish and a seamless, beautifully balanced profile.
The 2020 Chablis Terroir de Fyé is lively and perfumed, bursting with aromas of pear, crisp green apple, fresh bread and deftly judged reduction. Medium to full-bodied, satiny and seamless, it`s a bright, elegant wine that`s already showing well.
The 2020 Chenin Blanc has a detailed, finely delineated nose, delicate touches of orange blossom and jasmine emerging with time in the glass. The palate is well balanced, taut and linear, with fine acidity – almost crystalline.
Again, from Comblanchien, named after Etienne’s grandfather who planted this vineyard the vines here are 60+ years old. The old vines produce a wine with more concentration and complexity, sour cherry notes really lift the finish, this is really good. Latimer Vintners
Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, the 2017 Ormes de Pez features black cherries and cassis notions over a core of fragrant earth, stewed tea and tobacco plus a waft of forest floor. Medium-bodied, the palate is packed with juicy black fruit with a grainy texture and long, mineral-tinged finish.
Stylish wine, Bright nose of cut ripe green apples, lemon rind and a little honeydew. Palate is very well balanced with a concentration of fruit with a wonderful saline backbone. Delicious and punches above Bourgogne status. Latimer Vintners
The 2011 Les Ormes de Pez has an impressive bouquet, beautifully defined, not intense but precise, earthy black fruit mixed with tar and freshly rolled tobacco. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grain tannins.
