We are delighted to offer the recently released Krug Grande Cuvée 170th Edition. Krug is a house which personifies class, elegance and quality, making it one of the most desirable wines for collectors the world over.
Krug Grande Cuvée was created to craft the best expression of Champagne possible regardless of annual variations in climate. Since 1843, Krug has honoured this vision with each new Édition of Krug Grande Cuvée showcasing the house style. However, since 2016 and the 163rd edition, Krug Grande Cuvée has become an interpretation of a year as well as the blending of reserve wines from prior years, thus evolving the traditional Krug approach.
"Every year since the foundation of the House, a new Edition of Krug Grande Cuvée is created, every year the inspiration will be the same, but the creation will be totally unique and different." Olivier Krug
“In this blend, the dynamic Pinot Noirs of 2014 came from a wide range of plots throughout the Champagne region, while fruity and full bodied Chardonnays were selected from plots in the Montagne de Reims, Sézannais and Côte des Blancs. The Meuniers from the Vallée de la Marne Rive Gauche were particularly bright, with magnificent fruit expression from plots in Leuvrigny.” Julie Cavil, Cellar Master, House of Krug
Krug Grande Cuvée 170th Edition is a blend of 195 wines from 12 different years spanning from 1998 to 2014 (55% of the blend). 2014 was not a simple winemaking vintage in champagne. However, Chef de Cave, Julie Cavil, felt overall her Chardonnay was superb and elegant, the Meunier was fruity and there was an abundance of excellent Pinot Noir. This resulted in a spectacular 170th edition when blended with the 11 additional vintages, showcasing Krug’s classic richer profile combined with 2014s fine boned, citrus notes.
