Having long been ardent supporters of Domaine Lafouge, we were very keen to buy what we could of their Pommard offerings. Their ‘house style’ of excellently made wines that are delicious drinkers is personified here. The skill of the winemaking is apparent, and the characteristic approachability makes these the perfect wines to enjoy whilst you wait for others in your collection to mature. We tasted these in the office last week and all of us were equally enthused with the quality on show.
Pommard is being heralded by many as a village that has started offering consistency in quality in a way that they have not been able to before. Recent years has seen the style generally become more refined and elegant, making the contrast between Pommard and Volnay not as extreme. In our eyes, Domaine Lafouge’s two Pommard offerings epitomises why Pommard is starting to attract more attention.
William Kelley, of robertparker.com, echoes this opinion, writing that:
“Domaine Jean et Gilles Lafouge produces a range of impressively consistent and compelling wines from some ten hectares spread across the appellations of Auxey-Duresses, Meursault and Pommard, and it numbers among my favourite insider domaines in Burgundy. Old vines, cultivated soils and classical winemaking are the rudiments of Gilles Lafouge's recipe for success.”
Both plots are excellent, with Les Noizons particularly good at village level, with the vineyard sitting just above some premier cru plots. Both wines are physically available at our warehouse and are available for immediate delivery/transfer. We are happy to offer a mixed case of 3 bottles of each for £250.00 (inc Duty + VAT).
